IMPACT OF CYBERBULLYING – A GROWING CONCERN IN SANTA CLARA COUNTY & THE NATION

 In response to a growing community concern over the impact of Cyber bullying, especially upon school age youth, the Santa Clara County Child Abuse Council’s Legislations and Policy Committee will hold a special focus group.

The meeting will present highly relevant issues and provide supportive information to parents, caretakers and those who work with youth.

I.The purpose of this Focus Group is to respond to the emerging issue of “Cyber bullying.” What is it & why is it such a concern?                                                                                          1) How Cyber bullying impacts your work with children and families                                                     2) What should you do if you think your child is a victim of Cyber bullying                                            3) Pending legislation/proposals in California                                                                                       4) Trends and emerging issues such as “freedom of speech” vs. protection from cyber bullying             5) Sharing information, Discussions / Dialogue and Q&A  

II. To help us address these issues, there will be a panel composed of                                      1) Ray Mendoza, Deputy District Attorney of Santa Clara County                                                       2) Ann Brownell, Mother / Amanda Network, Anti-Bullying Campaign, Santa Clara County                    3) Sgt. Randy Schrieffer and Detective Kendra Nunes, San Jose Police Department, Child Exploitation Team

Highway 680 (North and South): Take the Calaveras Boulevard (237) exit WEST. Make a right turn at the Main Street off-ramp. The library is at the end of the off ramp.                                                    Highway 880 (17) (North and South): Take the Calaveras Boulevard (237) exit EAST. Make a left turn at Abel Street then a right turn on to Weller Lane. The library is at the end of Weller on Main Street on the right.Bus Routes:VTA bus #66 stops in front of the Milpitas Public Library.

AC Transit bus #217 also stops in front of the Library on Main Street.

To register you must work directly with youth who are dependents of Alameda, San Francisco, or Solano Counties.

The objective of the San Diego Conference is to develop and enhance professional skills and knowledge in the prevention, recognition, assessment and treatment of all forms of maltreatment including those related to family violence as well as to enhance investigative and legal skills. Issues concerning support for families, prevention, leadership, policy making and translating the latest research into action are also addressed.
